Mesothelioma and Asbestos Exposure Mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos. The exposure may be at work or at the home. Coughing, chest pain and dry throat are all symptoms of the pleural asbestosis. Other symptoms include abdominal pain, fluid accumulation and testicular carcinoma. There are four different mesothelioma types.
